Spring Must-Reads
I'm not trying to front here, I haven't always been a good reader. Not that I didn't like it, I just thought I didn't have the time. Turns out, I've learned, that you make time for the things that are important. So here I am, reading a book a month!
"Reading a book a month" has been on my yearly goals since probably 2012, and I hadn't accomplished that until last year at the ripe old age of 34. So what made me finally step it up, you ask? Was it the pandemic? A little. Was it the incredible luck of having an amazing group of girlfriends who invited me into a ladies book club where we could meet once a month and get lit(erary)? Yes. Most definitely yes.
I am super grateful for these ladies and all the crazy good books we've read over the last year and a half (and, subsequently, all the wine we've consumed). They cover a wide range of topics because we decided to not stick to just one thing. We've read self-help, novels, advice columns and memoirs.
Here's some of my Spring "must-reads" in the memoir, humor, self-help, collection of essays category, along with something I took from it that helped me in some way:
The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and Douglas Abrams - "We are fragile creatures, and it is from this weakness, not despite it, that we discover the possibility of pure joy." *10 MILLION STARS in my opinion*
Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss - "You don't find the time to do something, you make the time to do something." Debbie Millman
Untamed by Glennon Doyle - "Hard work is important. So are play and nonproductivity. My worth is tied not to my productivity but to my existence. I am worthy of rest."
Eat a Peach by David Chang - "We humans are more alike in our tastes than we think. Even with completely different tools and ingredients, we're bound to arrive at the same conclusions."
Get Your Shit Together by Sarah Knight - "The annoy so outweighed the joy that I had to take action."
Also some of my favorite novels that fill my need for a good juicy thriller now and then:
Verity by Colleen Hoover
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
One way to help you keep lessons or takeaways from favorite books organized is by using a Book Club Journal like this cute pink one I have from Barnes and Noble. A quick type in phone notes could do the trick as well.
Please let me know what you guys have been reading lately. Send me your recs below, and we can stalk each other on Goodreads if you'd like. :) You're amazing.
xoxo,
Trishae
